Copilot Studio Agents Training

Equip your makers and IT teams to build custom agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio: topics and conversation design, knowledge grounding, actions and connectors, then publishing and governance. Hands-on, building a working agent as you learn.

Why it matters

The first agent is easy. The tenth one is the test.

Copilot Studio makes building a first agent genuinely quick, which is exactly why ungoverned agent sprawl is the risk. An agent grounded in the wrong source, running under a shared identity, calling a write action nobody reviewed, is a problem waiting to surface. Maker training that teaches only the build produces demos. Training that teaches the build and the governance together produces agents that pass review and stay in production. This course does the second.

A maker who knows where the grounding scope and the data loss prevention boundary sit will ship an agent that survives a security review. That knowledge is part of the course, not a separate conversation later.

What it covers

Five areas of Copilot Studio agent building

From the maker portal through to a published, governed agent. Each area is hands-on against a live environment.

Copilot Studio fundamentals

Get oriented in the maker experience and understand where Copilot Studio fits across Microsoft 365 and Power Platform.

  • The Copilot Studio maker portal and agent anatomy
  • Agents, topics, and the orchestration model
  • Where Copilot Studio sits relative to Microsoft 365 Copilot
  • Licensing and the message-pack consumption model

Topics, triggers and conversation design

Design agent conversations that resolve the user's intent rather than looping, using topics and trigger phrases.

  • Authoring topics and trigger phrases
  • Conversational nodes, variables and entities
  • Generative orchestration versus classic topics
  • Handling fallback and escalation to a person

Knowledge and grounding

Ground the agent in approved sources so answers are accurate and scoped, not hallucinated.

  • Connecting SharePoint, Dataverse and public site knowledge
  • Generative answers over grounded sources
  • Scoping what the agent can and cannot read
  • Testing answer quality before release

Actions and connectors

Move the agent from answering to doing: call systems through connectors and Power Automate flows.

  • Prebuilt and custom connectors
  • Calling Power Automate flows from an agent
  • Passing inputs and outputs safely
  • Read-only versus write-capable action design

Publishing, governance and lifecycle

Publish agents to the right channels and operate them as managed assets, not one-off experiments.

  • Publishing to Teams, web and Microsoft 365 Copilot
  • Authentication and identity for agents
  • Solutions, environments and application lifecycle management
  • Data loss prevention and the maker governance posture

The course

How the training runs

For makers and IT teams

Suited to business makers, Power Platform administrators and IT professionals who will build and maintain agents. No prior coding background required, though Power Platform familiarity helps.

Hands-on build

Learners build a working agent during the course, from first topic through to a published, grounded agent that calls an action, rather than watching a feature tour.

Governance built in

Agent governance is taught alongside the build: identity, grounding scope, data loss prevention and lifecycle, so your makers ship agents that hold up rather than agents that get switched off.

Tailored to your tenant

Delivered as a tailored programme mapped to your environment, your connectors and your governance posture, for individuals or whole maker communities.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions: Copilot Studio training

What is Copilot Studio agents training?

It is hands-on training that teaches makers and IT teams to build custom agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio: designing conversation topics, grounding the agent in approved knowledge sources, adding actions through connectors and Power Automate, and publishing and governing the agent across channels such as Teams and the web. Learners build a working agent during the course.

Who should attend this training?

Business makers, Power Platform administrators and IT professionals who will build, publish and maintain agents. It does not require a coding background, though familiarity with Power Platform or Microsoft 365 administration helps. Developers who want the low-code agent surface before moving to pro-code options also benefit.

What is the difference between Copilot Studio and Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Microsoft 365 Copilot is the ready-made assistant across Word, Excel, Teams and the rest of the suite. Copilot Studio is the low-code platform for building your own custom agents, grounded in your data and connected to your systems. This training is about building agents in Copilot Studio, not about end-user adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot, which our Copilot training covers separately.

Do I need to write code to build a Copilot Studio agent?

No. Copilot Studio is a low-code platform: topics, knowledge sources and many actions are configured rather than coded. Power Automate handles most system integration without traditional development. The training focuses on this low-code path, while flagging where pro-code extensions or Azure AI Foundry would be the better fit.

Does the training cover agent governance?

Yes, and deliberately. Building an agent is the easy part; operating it safely is where organisations struggle. The course covers agent identity, grounding scope, data loss prevention policy, solutions and environments, and lifecycle management, so your makers build agents that pass review rather than agents IT later has to shut down.

Can the training be tailored to our environment?

Yes. We deliver tailored programmes mapped to your tenant, your connectors and your governance posture, for individuals or whole maker communities. If you want agents delivered for you rather than built in-house, our Microsoft AI Agents service covers that, and the two pair well.
