Why it matters

Why the landing zone decides whether the migration succeeds

Azure programmes that stall share a root cause: workload migration began before the landing zone was designed. The first three migrated workloads each invented their own identity model, their own network pattern and their own monitoring approach. By the time the fourth workload arrived, the foundation was three different foundations stacked on top of each other.

Programmes that compound value do the opposite. The landing zone is designed against the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework reference and tailored to your governance, identity and connectivity posture before the first workload migrates. Every subsequent workload inherits a foundation that already answers the questions evaluators ask: where is identity, where is policy, where is monitoring, where is the cost model.

UHS Logic builds the landing zone right. Workloads move onto it on a managed cadence. FinOps and security posture are part of delivery, not an afterthought conversation when the first bill arrives.

Azure cost surprises are almost always landing zone surprises in disguise. The foundation is where the discipline lives or where the drift starts.

Delivery areas

Four Microsoft Azure delivery surfaces

Each surface is a distinct engagement shape with its own discovery framing, solution architecture and operating model. Pick the surfaces in scope for your engagement and we will respond against those, not a generic Azure framing.

Cloud platform foundation

Landing zones designed against the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework with governance, identity, networking, security and monitoring posture defined as code. The foundation everything else inherits, designed once and right.

  • Enterprise-scale landing zone topology
  • Identity, RBAC and Privileged Identity Management
  • Network architecture, hub-and-spoke and connectivity
  • Policy, governance and monitoring posture as code

Workload modernisation

Application and data platform modernisation onto Azure: containerised workloads on Azure Kubernetes Service, App Service, Azure Functions, Azure SQL and Azure Database for PostgreSQL. Migration shape framed against the Well-Architected Framework, not assembled ad hoc.

  • AKS, App Service and Azure Functions deployment
  • Azure SQL, PostgreSQL and Cosmos DB data platforms
  • DevOps pipelines and infrastructure-as-code
  • Application migration framing (rehost, replatform, refactor)

Azure AI

Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Foundry and the Azure AI services surface for data and developer teams building custom generative AI. RAG patterns, evaluation harnesses, responsible AI design integrated into the development lifecycle, not bolted on at the end.

  • Azure OpenAI deployment, region and model selection
  • Retrieval-augmented generation patterns
  • Azure AI Foundry and AI Services integration
  • Evaluation harnesses and Responsible AI design

FinOps and cost discipline

Azure cost visibility, reservation and savings plan strategy, workload right-sizing and tag taxonomy designed as a steady-state practice rather than a one-off review. The discipline that keeps Azure spend defensible at quarterly business review.

  • Cost visibility and tag taxonomy design
  • Reservation, savings plan and Azure Hybrid Benefit strategy
  • Workload right-sizing and idle-resource posture
  • FinOps operating model integrated with finance

Framework posture

The frameworks Azure delivery aligns to

Six framework alignments that sit underneath every UHS Logic Azure engagement. Each is concrete: a design alignment, a control mapping, or a verifiable posture statement. None of them is a marketing claim.

Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework

Azure landing zones designed against the current Cloud Adoption Framework reference. Strategy, plan, ready, adopt, govern and manage phases applied to your engagement shape, not a generic CAF retelling.

Azure Well-Architected Framework

Workloads designed against the five pillars: reliability, security, cost optimisation, operational excellence and performance efficiency. WAF assessments produced for in-scope workloads as part of delivery.

IRAP-assessed Azure context

Workloads designed against Microsoft Azure regions assessed under the Information Security Registered Assessor Program. Region selection reflects classification and sovereignty requirements rather than convenience.

Information Security Manual alignment

Azure designs align to current ISM controls relevant to the workload classification, with explicit control mapping in evaluator-ready format for engagements where it is in scope.

Essential Eight implementation surface

Azure is the implementation surface for Essential Eight controls in cloud-resident workloads: application control, patching, MFA, restrict admin privileges and the rest. Implementation framing is part of delivery, not separate.

Microsoft Responsible AI

Where Azure OpenAI is in scope, Microsoft Responsible AI principles are applied in the deployment design and the model integration, not addressed at programme end. Aligned with the Microsoft Copilot governance framework.

Platform surface

Identity, networking, security and data governance

Azure does not stand alone. It inherits identity from Microsoft Entra, integrates with the Microsoft Security stack and surfaces data through Microsoft Purview. The integration design is part of delivery from day one.

Microsoft Entra and identity

Conditional access, Privileged Identity Management and managed identities are the identity layer everything inside the Azure subscription inherits. Designed as the foundation, not retrofitted after workloads have shipped.

Azure networking

Hub-and-spoke topology, Azure Virtual WAN, Private Link, Azure Firewall and Application Gateway designed against your connectivity model, hybrid posture and security boundary. Network architecture is an explicit deliverable.

Microsoft Sentinel and Defender for Cloud

Security posture integrated with the Microsoft Security delivery. Sentinel as cloud-native SIEM and SOAR, Defender for Cloud as the workload protection layer across Azure resources.

Microsoft Purview and data governance

Where data platforms are in scope, Microsoft Purview provides the data classification, lineage and governance layer that makes Azure data assets discoverable, controlled and audit-ready.

Methodology

RapidLogic™ for Microsoft Azure

Three phases. Assess produces a defensible target-state architecture and a phased roadmap. Migrate is the build on a managed cadence. Operate is the steady-state programme that keeps Azure spend, security and posture defensible.

01

Assess

Current-state landing zone review, workload portfolio assessment against the Well-Architected Framework, FinOps baseline and Essential Eight gap analysis where in scope. Outputs a defensible Azure target state and a phased delivery roadmap.

02

Migrate

Landing zone deployment, workload migration on a managed cadence with verification gates, and integration with the existing identity, security and monitoring posture. Migration shape and approach (rehost, replatform, refactor) chosen workload by workload, not by ideology.

03

Operate

Steady-state operations posture: FinOps cadence, workload health reviews, policy and governance maintenance, Sentinel and Defender content lifecycle. Hypercare period defined explicitly and knowledge transfer to your team is part of delivery.

RapidLogic™ is the implementation methodology of UHS Logic. It is applied across all Microsoft Azure engagements.

Differentiators

Why UHS Logic wins Microsoft Azure engagements

Foundation before workload

We build the landing zone right before we migrate workloads onto it. The shortcut that breaks programmes is the migration that begins before the identity, networking and policy posture is defined.

Microsoft-specialist practice

We do not deliver AWS or Google Cloud workloads. Every consultant carries Microsoft as their core competency. Azure delivery is grounded in current Microsoft delivery practice, not retrofitted from a multi-cloud generalist motion.

Cost discipline built in

FinOps is a delivery surface, not an afterthought. Tag taxonomy, reservation strategy, workload right-sizing and the operating model that keeps Azure spend defensible are part of the engagement, not an upsell.

Procurement-ready posture

Engagements produce an evidence pack designed for procurement and audit review. CAF and WAF alignment, IRAP context, ISM control mapping and Essential Eight implementation framing are structured for evaluator review, not just internal delivery.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions: Microsoft Azure implementation

What does a UHS Logic Microsoft Azure engagement actually cover?

Three engagement shapes: assess, migrate and operate. Assess covers landing zone review, workload portfolio assessment against the Well-Architected Framework, FinOps baseline and Essential Eight gap analysis where in scope. Migrate is the build: landing zone deployment, workload migration with verification gates and integration with existing identity, security and monitoring posture. Operate covers steady-state operations including FinOps cadence, workload health reviews and Sentinel and Defender content lifecycle.

How does UHS Logic approach Azure landing zone design?

Landing zones are designed against the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework, with the enterprise-scale reference adapted to your governance posture, identity model, networking topology and security boundary. Posture is defined as code so the foundation is reproducible and auditable, not assembled by hand and forgotten.

Does UHS Logic deliver Azure OpenAI for development teams?

Yes. Azure OpenAI Service deployment includes model selection, region selection, deployment architecture, retrieval-augmented generation patterns, evaluation harnesses and Responsible AI design integrated into the development lifecycle. We work with your developer teams, not in place of them. See the Microsoft Copilot page for the deployment surface aimed at end users and the AI training page for the training surface.

How is the Azure delivery framed for Government engagements?

Government Azure engagements are designed against IRAP-assessed Microsoft regions with region selection reflecting classification and sovereignty requirements. ISM control mapping and Essential Eight implementation are produced as part of delivery and structured for evaluator review. See the Government solutions page for the broader Government delivery posture.

Does UHS Logic deliver multi-cloud architectures?

No. UHS Logic is a Microsoft-specialist practice. We do not deliver AWS or Google Cloud workloads. Where your environment includes other clouds, we integrate Azure cleanly against them rather than re-architecting your existing investments. Our specialisation is the depth of Microsoft delivery, not the breadth of cloud generalism.

How does FinOps fit into a UHS Logic Azure engagement?

FinOps is part of the delivery surface, not an upsell. Tag taxonomy, reservation and savings plan strategy, workload right-sizing and the operating model that keeps Azure spend defensible at quarterly business review are designed during Assess and operationalised during Operate. Cost discipline is a steady-state practice, not a one-off optimisation review.
